For sport

Four doors. Pick yours.

For the adults around Alberta’s under-18 athletes: athletic directors and schools, coaches and clubs, parents and families. And for the university athletes who deliver it. Everything for teams is free and carries no funder branding. AWARE’s funding will come from licensed gambling operators, through one pooled fund. They have no say over what is taught and never appear in a session. How that works. Pilot sessions begin in spring 2027, and full launch follows with fall 2027 sports.

Athletic directors & schools

Cover every team in your school

One request can cover a whole school’s teams across the year: a Team Session for each team, led by a university athlete from that sport, and a Coach & AD Briefing for staff. We schedule around your seasons.

  • Team-by-team delivery, matched by sport
  • A 30-minute Coach & AD Briefing for your staff
  • Your notice to parents and guardians, from our template, at least seven days before each session, with the right to opt out
  • Maps to outcomes in Alberta’s CALM curriculum
  • Only at your invitation, with your staff in the room

For context: School Sport Alberta, formerly the Alberta Schools’ Athletic Association, reports over 400 high schools and over 55,000 students taking part each year. Its Strategic Plan 2025–29 includes the goal: “Provide an opportunity for sportsmanship training to all schools.” AWARE is independent. We have not contacted School Sport Alberta or any school division, and neither has reviewed or endorsed this program.

Bring it to your team room

45 to 60 minutes in your own space, with you in the room. A university athlete from your sport talks with your athletes about the law, how betting reaches them, integrity as they move up, and where help lives. No betting math, no odds, and no operator names.

  • High-school and youth club teams (U16–U18), boys and girls
  • Provincial and high-performance teams can add High-Performance Integrity
  • Free to the team: no cost, no product, no pitch
  • A 30-minute coach briefing runs before or after

University athletes

Become an ambassador

Are you a current university or college athlete in Alberta, aged 19 or older and past your first year? Ambassadors visit high-school and youth club teams in their own sport and talk with athletes a few years behind them. You complete about 15 hours of paid training, and are paid $100 per session plus travel.

The first cohort is recruited, screened and trained in spring 2027. Before your first session you complete a written application, an interview, two references, a police information check with vulnerable sector check, safe sport training, and facilitator training. While you serve, you do not gamble in any form, you never message or follow athletes on social media, and you never appear in any operator’s advertising or marketing. Ambassadors may not hold any endorsement or marketing arrangement with a gambling operator. Before you start, you need written sign-off from your institution’s compliance office, and you follow your institution’s and conference’s rules. How ambassadors work.

Parents & families

The Family Guide

For parents and guardians of high-school and youth club athletes: how to talk to your teen about betting, the warning signs, what the law says, and where help lives.

Free, printable, and never behind an email wall. A family in a hard moment should not have to trade an address for help. Publishing summer 2027. Join the list if you’d like to know when it’s out, or when we run a parent session near you. Until then, GameSense has a parent page, “Talking to kids about gambling,” at gamesenseab.ca.
